Soil hazard — potential compression sensitivity in arable farming (May — September)

The map series shows the subsoil compression sensitivity under typical cropland conditions in summer, i.e. the long-standing average (1975-2005) for the period May to September. The classification ranges from very low to very high sensitivity to compression. Soil compaction has long been a problem of soil protection, exacerbated by the use of increasingly heavy machinery, especially in agriculture and construction. As a precautionary tool for soil protection, these maps can, for example, answer the question whether harvesting transport, which was relatively risk-free in July/August, already poses a high risk of soil sealing in October. In order to address as many issues as possible with different spatial implications, maps are available at six different scales: 1: 2.000 for specific land management or construction on site or for high-resolution planning 1: 10.000 for parcel sharp planning 1: 25.000 for plans at municipal level 1: 100.000 for planning in larger regions 1: 250.000 for nationwide differentiated planning 1: 1000.000 for national to national planning Further series of maps on the potential sensitivity to compression exist for the period October-April and for grassland use.
