Average degree of cutting of the country, expressed by the effective mesh size (meff) in square kilometers (km²) and proportion of uncut rooms over 100 km² or more than 50 km² as a percentage of the country’s area. The effective mesh size indicates the probability with which two points (e.g. animals) are not separated by obstacles (e.g. settlements, roads). The more obstacles there are, the smaller the probability that two animals will encounter each other, the smaller the effective mesh size becomes.
Cutting geometries:
Line and area infrastructure data of the Official Topographical Cartographic Information System (ATKIS DLM25) with the separating objects roads (federal highways, federal, state, district and municipal roads), rails, rivers from a width of 6 m, lakes and settlements.
Existence of a time series with data points 1930, 1966, 1977, 1989, 1998, 2004 and 2013. Calculation of the effective mesh size and the UZR greater than 100 km² or 50 km² respectively.
