Ein wichtiges Instrument zur Sicherung von Grundwasser zum Zwecke der Trinkwasserversorgung ist die Festsetzung von Wasserschutzgebieten in den Einzugsgebieten der Trinkwasserbrunnen. Ein Wasserschutzgebiet ist in mehrere Zonen gegliedert, in denen abgestufte Handlungsbeschränkungen und Verbote gelten. Der Datensatz beinhaltet das Wasserschutzgebiet der Zonen I, II, IIIa und IIIb im Stadtgebiet Braunschweig.
