Water protected areas (protection and extraction areas for basic and drinking water (SGGW): According to the Lower Saxony Water Act (NWG) in conjunction with the Water Budget Act (WHG), water protection areas are established in the interest of public water supply or for the benefit of the general public in order to protect the groundwater in the extraction or catchment area of a groundwater abstraction from adverse effects. The water reserve can be divided into zones with different protection provisions, e.g. protection zone I — version area, protection zone II — narrower protection zone, protection zone III: Further protection zone (III A and III B). On the basis of the notifications made by the water authorities, in addition to the protected areas established by Regulation, other areas with different functions and other status will be maintained. This data is also available in the INSPIRE data model “Annex 3: Management Areas/Protected Areas/Regulated Areas and Reporting Units”. The provision is made via the Federal Institute for Water Studies (BfG) via presentation and download service.
