Atlas map 7.2 “Water supply” shows selected water extraction facilities for the public drinking water supply, mining and manufacturing industries. In addition, the dams for drinking water extraction, selected long-distance water pipes and the circular water abstraction volumes are reproduced.
In 1995, 17 849 water extraction plants in Germany supplied 98.6 % of the population with drinking water. The map included more than 1200 public extraction facilities and over 400 mining and manufacturing plants with a production volume of 1 million m³/a. These are differentiated according to the type of extraction and the volume of extraction. The extraction method is divided into the classes of surface water, groundwater, spring water and multiple extractions.
The extraction method “groundwater” also includes the extraction of shore filtrate and enriched groundwater. The volume of extraction is
represented by three symbol sizes (symbolics based on DIN 2425).
