WCs Accessibility of urban green spaces

The indicator describes the accessibility of nearby and larger public green spaces, measured by the population living at walking distance in relation to the total population of the respective city (central and large cities with 50,000 inhabitants). The indicator determines the proportion of the population that can be found within walking distance of public green spaces close to residential and neighbourhoods. Green spaces are multifunctional and have a high importance for the surrounding population through their climate function (air filtration, cold air formation), recreation function (sports, leisure, nature experience) and flood protection function (water storage, retention area). The indicator addresses both day-to-day recreation at walking distance as well as extensive leisure activities in the indirect neighbourhood environment or local recreation at weekends.
