WC’s share of wind farm area in area

The indicator is a measure of land use and technical overprinting of the landscape by wind turbines (WKA). In addition, there are aesthetic effects due to the visibility of the equipment over long distances. The use of wind power can affect birds and bats through disturbances and by increasing mortality (Hötker et al. 2005). According to studies, wind turbines also have positive effects on certain breeding bird species. This is presumably caused by secondary effects such as habitat changes or agricultural use in the immediate vicinity of the WKA. Especially collision-prone for birds are wind farms on wetlands and on bare mountain ridges. Forest sites of WKA are particularly risky for bats.
