The indicator covers the lengths of all smaller flowing waters (3 m average width) as linear elements, as well as the boundary lengths of larger flowing waters (6 m average width) and area-based waters and related to the respective area area. This indicator is important in several respects: from an ecological point of view, since the edges and shorelines have a high biodiversity. from an anthropogenic point of view, as a diverse landscape is perceived as attractive. Water boundary lines are classified as particularly important in relevant models. Here only water-bearing and non-piped waters are considered throughout the year. Channels are not taken into account because of their mostly strong technical overprint. For more information, visit http://www.ioer-monitor.de/index.php?id=44&ID_IND=U31DG.
