The ATOM Feed Download Service for steep routes in the Wuppertal cycling network provides a dataset for download, which can be downloaded in 2 gradients (notable: 3 % — 7 %, heavy: greater than 7 %) categorised steep sections of the Wuppertal cycling network with a length of at least 500 m each. The Wuppertal cycling network includes the cycle paths signposted according to road traffic regulations in the city area of Wuppertal, the local signposted municipal cycle paths of the city of Wuppertal, including related sections of cycle paths outside the Wuppertal city area, as well as the excerpt relevant for Wuppertal from the cycling network North Rhine-Westphalia. The data set was created on the occasion of the publication of the cycling data in the Wuppertaler GeoPortal in the second quarter of 2015 in a semi-automated process by interlacing the data of the cycling network with a digital terrain model. Following the automatic determination of the steep routes, a number of other sections have been added on the basis of expert local knowledge, which are perceived by the cyclist as relevant gradients. The data set will only be continued after explicit identification of an update requirement. The line elements contained in the data set are extracts from the two data sets “Radwege Wuppertal” and “Radrouten Wuppertal”, which contain the city’s complete cycling network, represented by the central axes of the associated roads and paths. The dataset of the steep tracks is therefore to be understood as supplementing these two data sets. The ESRI shape files, KML and GeoJSON files that the download service accesses as open data under the CC BY 4.0 license are updated weekly in an automated process.
