In order to assess the structure and development of road haulage, the Federal Office for Freight Transport (BAG) carries out representative surveys of information on these companies in respect of undertakings operating road haulage. They aim to identify developments in the transport and logistics market at an early stage and should, among other things, contribute to maintaining the functioning of the predominantly medium-sized transport industry. The survey on the “structural structure of commercial road haulage and in-house transport” is carried out on the basis of the Transport Statistics Act (VerkStatG). The survey covers all companies headquartered in Germany that use lorries for road haulage, including trailers with a permissible total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. It shall cover a representative selection of not more than 10 % of undertakings engaged in road haulage as a main, ancillary or ancillary activity. As part of the survey, the selected companies will ask for information on the economic activities, the number of vehicles used for the transport of goods by type of vehicle and body and the structure of the employees and differentiated according to different criteria.
