The book contains the contributions of an interdisciplinary conference on 26 April 2008 and materials from an exhibition from 26 April — 29 June 2008 at the Kleist Museum Frankfurt (Oder), organised by Kleist Museum and LGB and other previously unpublished contributions. Texts by 14 authors clarify our knowledge of this pioneer of modern cartography and reveal new facets of this fascinating personality of the 18th century, who has been active in numerous fields. The volume also contains a previously unpublished text Schmettaus. Comments on the exhibition, 44 mostly coloured illustrations as well as a time table complete the contributions.
