Dataset description
Main network of open spaces
The main routes of the open space network are designed to ensure the usability of the overarching green network — in landscape axes, green rings and green connections that are important throughout the city — for pedestrians and cyclists.
Green connections that are significant throughout the city:
As a “green feeder”, the green links take on important connecting functions, in particular through the condensed urban districts and commercial areas to the landscape axes and to the more distant parks and recreation areas.
They often consist of sections of different shapes. The green links run
partly in the street space on less busy roads, where the green character is created by accompanying green strips, rows of trees or avenues.
In addition to the recreational use and the connection function for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, the green connections can also serve as rainwater retention or as an ecological stepping stone for the biotope network. In addition, some green links have a cultural-historical background (e.g. old postal routes or urban axes) and can thus contribute to the readability of the city and landscape history.
Public parks and playgrounds
In addition to the main elements of the Green Network, Green Rings and Landscape Axes, Hamburg’s Freiraumverbund comprises other green and recreational facilities. As the smaller green areas, in particular, have a high importance for the use of recreational accommodation in particular, the public, non-typical parks and public playgrounds are also shown in addition to the functionally important parks (district, district and district parks, so-called “typed” parks).
Green rings:
The two Green Rings, together with Hamburg’s twelve landscape axes, constitute the basic structure of the Hamburg Green Network and are therefore of great importance for recreation, for the networking of habitats of animals and plants and for the urban climate.
Potential areas without compensation
The Drs in Petita I.4 (“Green Net”) of the Drs. 21/16980 compensation obligation for the use of green network areas within the 2. Green rings does not extend to the interventions already planned or implemented as of 17.05.2016. A list of the so-called “united areas” can be found in Annex 5 to the document. In the map of the landscape of the Green Network, these are shown as potential areas for business or housing.
Landscape axes up to incl. 2. Green ring
Together with the two Green Rings, the twelve landscape axes represent the basic structure of the Hamburg Green Network. Their location is essentially determined by the still preserved natural and landscape structures, such as watercourses. Especially in inner-city areas, the landscape axes also include built-up areas. It is thus made clear for these sections that the development of new public green spaces and open spaces is of particular importance here. In addition, the spectrum of its characteristics ranges from narrow, green roads from a small width of isolated urban green spaces to the wide Elbe-Urstromtal valley.
