Protective dunes are dunes that protect an area from storm surges or protect the island’s stock. Dunes receive the property of protective dunes by dedication. The dyke authority declares the dedication by regulation. Local circumstances must be taken into account. The protective dunes also include their safety devices. The provisions of the Lower Saxony Dike Act (NDG) apply to dedicated protective dunes.
