Blatt Frankfurt (Oder) shows the North German lowlands in the border area of Germany and Poland. In the map section, the Oderbruch stands out clearly with its extensively deposited Auesediments. The morphology of the lowlands is characterised by ice ages, with in some cases several glacial series (basic moraine, end moraine, Sander, Urstromtal). Deposits of the Elster, Saale and Vistula cold times dominate the leaf cutting, whereby the relics of the older ice advances are largely superimposed by soft-cold loosers’ sediments. According to their petrography and genesis, a distinction is made: Loam/mergel of the base moraines, deposits of the final moraines, glacial basin sludge, fluviatile and glazifluvitile sands as well as Aeolian flying and dune sands. Prequarter subsurfaces appear only occasionally and regionally narrowly under the quaternary top layer. Occurrences of miocene lignite silt and quartz sand, for example, are recorded southwest of Frankfurt and in the northwest of Scharmützelsee. In addition to the legend, which informs about the age, petrography and genesis of the represented units, an overlay scheme vividly summarises all near-surface overlay cases. An additional profile section crosses in its southwest-north-north-east course the Ostbrandenburg sink and threshold, the Guben-Fürstenwalder fault zone, the Mecklenburg-Brandenburg Senke and the Vorsudetische Monokline.
