Greenhouse gas balance

Since 2008, the Office for the Environment, Consumer Protection and Local Agenda has created CO2 balances for Bonn retroactively until 1990. The current calculations last until 2018. For the preparation of such accounting, the total annual energy consumption of households, the economy and transport in the urban area is recorded and the resulting greenhouse gas volumes are determined. For the first time, in addition to carbon dioxide, other emitted gases with global warming potential will be taken into account in Bonn’s accounting process under the Kyoto Protocol.
