A hydrogeological subarea is defined as an area in which single or more hydrogeological units are regionally characterised by a uniform construction of the upper groundwater space. The boundary drawing takes into account where hydrogeologically meaningful, the natural spatial structure of physical geography. The subspace division forms the basis for the delimitation of so-called groundwater bodies, on the basis of which the quantitative and texture findings of groundwater for reporting under the EC-WFD can be interpreted meaningfully.
