The Saxon Monument Protection Act (SächsDSchG) of 3 March 1993, legally adjusted as of 1 January 2009, regulates the preservation of monuments and the preservation of monuments in the Free State of Saxony.
Section 21 of the SächsDSchG contains the following statements on monument protection statutes:
(1) The municipalities may, in consultation with the specialised authorities or on their proposal, place areas, in particular street, square or local maps, site plans, settlements, districts, building groups, production facilities, whose preservation for historical, artistic, scientific, urban or landscape design reasons has a particular public interest, as well as their surroundings, insofar as it is significant for their appearance, under statutes (protection areas).
The articles of association are subject to approval under Section 112(1) of the Municipal Code for the Free State of Saxony (SächsGemO) in the version published on 18 March 2003 (SächsGVBl. P. 55, 159), as amended, competent legal supervisory authority.
