In 1994, the City of Cologne issued an Ordinance on Natural Denkmales. This was continued in 2001. At present, a total of 194 trees and avenues are designated as natural monuments.
Natural monuments are designated and protected for their rarity, peculiarity or beauty or also for scientific, natural history, regional or earth-historical reasons.
They are fixed in the so-called architectural exterior by the landscape plan of the City of Cologne (LP) and beyond by the Ordinance on Natural Denkmales (NDI-VO). The maps offered here contain the protected trees of both statutes.
