Physiological thoroughness of the soils of Germany

The map of the physiological thoroughness of soils in Germany gives an overview of the thickness of the rootable space below the earth’s surface. The physiological thoroughness describes the rootability of the soil. It is bounded by solid rocks, solidified benches and horizons as well as groundwater. The map is based on the evaluation of the utilisation-differentiated soil overview map 1:1,000,000 (BUEK1000N) and shows the metric value of the thoroughness in classified form. The method is derived from the soil history carting instructions (KA5) and documented in the methodsWIKI of the FISBo BGR. The land use data from CORINE Land Cover 2006 is used to differentiate the usage data of the profile data.
