Dataset description

The map of the potential erosion hazards of arable soils by water provides an overview of the potential risk of soil removal from water in Germany based on soil scientific, morphographic and climatic factors. Soil erosion by water destroys soil in the long term and thus the natural livelihood for future generations. The map was created using the long-term model ABAG (General soil removal equation). It is the adaptation of the Universal Soil Equation (USLE) model to German conditions. The method is published in DIN 19708:2005-02 and in the method documentation of Ad-hoc-AG Boden. For the application to soil maps, the procedure has been changed by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials (BGR). The map includes soil-related characteristics (K-factor) from the use-differentiated soil overview map of Germany 1:1,000,000 (BÜK1000N), morphological characteristics (S-factor) from the DGM50 of the Federal Office for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) and climatic parameters (R-factor) from the precipitation data of the German Weather Service (DWD) for the period 1961-1990. The arable sites are extracted from the land use dataset CORINE Land Cover from 2006.
