In the state of Brandenburg, groundwater is the basis for drinking water supply and feeds surface waters to a significant extent.
Knowledge of groundwater quality is therefore essential for a sustainable and economic
Dealing with the water resource. Manifold anthropogenic influences pose a threat to near-surface groundwater, which is the task of the State Office for the Environment (LfU) to identify and evaluate. In addition, European requirements such as the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) require knowledge of natural background values, hydrogeochemical groundwater properties and the anthropogenic component of the substance concentrations.
The LfU regularly investigates the groundwater quality of the state of Brandenburg.
This report includes data for the 2006-2012 investigation period from 1,460 sampling points at 1,287 sites. The analyses mainly come from groundwater measuring stations of the country’s measuring network and, in addition, from external and temporary sites, which are relatively evenly distributed across the country. The focus of the evaluation was on the main aquifer, which is relevant to water management.
