An assessment of the status of surface water and groundwater is conditional on an inventory in the respective river basin districts on the basis of existing water data. Anthropogenic impairments and interventions are determined, e.g. wastewater discharges, contaminated sites, substances from atmosphere and agriculture as well as water abstractions. Following the requirements of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), only flowing waters with a catchment area of more than 10 square kilometres, lakes with an area of more than 0.5 square kilometres and the entire groundwater are subject to the inventory. The data for the territory of Brandenburg were published in the so-called C report.
