Dataset description

With the 2021 social budget, the BMAS provides a comprehensive overview of the range of services and the financing of social security in Germany: According to preliminary results, a total of around EUR 1.161.5 billion was spent on social benefits in 2021. This represents an increase of 3.4 percent compared to the previous year, while nominal economic growth was higher with an increase of 6.0 percent. The ratio of social benefits to gross domestic product — the social benefit ratio — is therefore 0.9 percentage points lower than in the previous year at 32.5 percent.
