Speed controls of the city of Aachen 2022

Too high speed is very often the cause of accidents on Aachen’s roads. Therefore, the Department of Safety and Order regularly travels with two mobile measuring devices in order to control the speed at special danger points. Unlike surveillance by the police, urban traffic monitoring of flowing traffic is subject to strict statutory requirements under Paragraph 48 of the Ordinance Authority Act, which essentially permit surveillance only at ‘hazard sites’. Due to these requirements and in close consultation with the police, the city is currently carrying out speed checks at approximately 130 points in the urban area in the context of traffic accident prevention.
