Definition: Participation ranges from participation in social and cultural life, leisure activities and civic engagement to political participation. The possibilities for participation depend on both the social, cultural and material resources as well as the accessibility of relevant infrastructure facilities. Civic engagement and political participation are important dimensions of social participation. They enable the articulation of interests and the active shaping of society.
