The Competition Commission is the body responsible for implementing Law 3959/11 on the protection of free competition.
By Law 2296/95, the Competition Commission acquired the form of an independent authority with administrative autonomy, while by Law 2837/2000, it also acquired financial autonomy. Finally, by Law 3373/2005 the Competition Commission acquired a distinct legal personality which allows it to participate independently in all types of proceedings concerning acts or omissions, while at the same time it was granted the power to intervene in sectors of the economy (Article 11 of Law 3959/11). In addition, its powers of inspection have been extended as well as its powers to implement the Community competition rules, in accordance with the provisions of Regulation No 1/2003.
Its internal operation and the way its resources are managed are regulated by the Operation and Management Regulation.
