The Museum of Photography “Christos Kalemkeris” was established as a public law body of the Municipality of Kalamaria in 2001. The archive and publishing house of the Museum are housed in privately owned facilities on Andreas Papandreou 48A Street, while the exhibition space is foreseen in the future to be the three-storey building of the dorms in the area of Kodra camp.
The Museum’s archive includes rich and important photographic material from 1838 (beginnings of the art of photography) until today, focusing on important subjects of Greek and foreign photographers who staffed the very history of photography in Greece and the Mediterranean during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Among these themes are rare photographs from the history of the Greek railway network as well as the tramway of Greece, the Balkan and two world wars, as well as the antiquities of Greece and Asia Minor.
