Aquaculture is the farming of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic organisms, such as algae and frogs. The breeding is carried out both in plants on land of fresh water or brackish, as well as in plants at sea. The main types of aquaculture are:- fish farming or fish farming- crustacean- shellfish farming, which in turn is divided into venericulture (vongoles) and mussels (cowls and oysters). For Emilia-Romagna valleys are particularly important, i.e. the farming of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in the natural valleys of the Po Delta. The Emilia-Romagna Region promotes aquaculture in order to reduce the collection of wild products, necessarily limited, and as an economic activity supplementing the incomes of farmers and fishermen. The Region has delegated powers to the Provinces to issue authorisations for aquaculture land installations. As regards installations in marine waters, the Region directly manages the granting of state-owned maritime concessions. Aquaculture farmers receive funding from Axis 2 of the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) provided by the Region on specific calls.http://www.ermesagricoltura.it/Economia-ittica/Acquacoltura
