Surface water bodies of the Po River District Management Plan drawn up in accordance with European Directive 2000/60/EC. They concern watercourses, lakes, transitional waters and sea-coastal waters. A water body is a part of a physical element (river, canal, lake,...) homogeneous in terms of physical and qualitative characteristics. It is also characterised in terms of homogeneous anthropogenic pressures. Definition of the Directive (Article 2(10)) — surface water body: a distinct and significant element of surface water, such as a lake, an artificial basin, a stream, river or canal, part of a stream, river or canal, transitional waters or a stretch of coastal waters.
