The CORINE (COoRdination de l’INformation sur l’Environnement) Land Cover (CLC) 2012 is one of the datasets produced in the initial soil monitoring operations of the Copernicus programme (the European Earth Monitoring Programme formerly known as GMES). The CLC provides consistent information on land cover and land use change across Europe. This inventory was launched in 1985 (reference year 1990) and created a time series of land cover with updates in 2000, 2006 and 2012, last update. CLC products derive from a work of photo-interpretation of satellite images in which the teams of each Member State of the European Environment Agency and the cooperating countries participate. The production process followed a standard methodology and nomenclature with the following basic parameters: Corine nomenclature with three hierarchical levels and 44 classes; minimum mapping unit (MMU) of 25 hectares; the minimum width of linear elements is 100 meters. The national land cover inventories derived from this work were subsequently integrated by creating a continuous land cover map across Europe.
