The class describes the extension of the railway platform, i.e. the base on which the tracks and sleepers are housed, it could be said that the tracks stand at the ballast as the traffic area is the overall road area. Usually the seat consists of the gravel basement and has a variable extension depending on the number of tracks it hosts. When the tracks are on level crossing or in other location circumstances shared with other types of mobility, this class is not defined but the seat of the other type of traffic prevails: e.g. in the case of a level crossing, the shared area is described at the road site and the track element shall correspond to an instance of ‘roadside’. It is not required to acquire this class to measure when it is underground (see cap. Genoa). It includes all areas of own seat of rail transport and not shared by other types of roads. Station platforms and platforms are defined as railway artefacts, while services and exchange areas (stations, airports, etc.) are further explained in the relevant areas as transport service areas, while the buildings and artifacts that insist there are described in the building classes.
