District Po — Hydroecoregions

The Idroecoregions identify territorial areas with common characteristics in relation to water and the effects on water. As part of the process of implementing the European Water Quality Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC, Water Framework Directive, WFD), hydroecoregions (Hydro Ecoregions, HER) have been defined at European level on the basis of an analysis of geographical, morphometric, climatic and geological descriptors. HERs are not delimited by national borders and administrative limits and cover the entire European territory. HERs are one of the elements necessary for the characterisation of water bodies, as provided for in the WFD. For the needs of more detail on a district scale, the HERs have been revised for the parts falling within the River Po River Hydrographic District. The dataset concerns the parts of HER falling within the Po Valley District.
