It is a single polygon related to the area of the river Po (first order basin, confluence directly into the sea) the delimitation of which was defined by the Decree of the President of the Republic 1 June 1998 ‘Approval of the perimeter of the river Po’. Two elements are highlighted: — the perimeter also includes parts of non-national territory (Switzerland, France) which are part of the basin but are not affected by the planning of the AdbPo; — an ‘administrative opportunity’ criterion concerns the fact that the territory of municipalities crossed by the delimitation of the Po Basin can be attributed in full to the AdbPo planning framework or vice versa of the neighbouring Adb (the latter case only for municipalities with territory in national basins, municipalities with part of territory in international basins are fully included in the planning of the AdbPo); in most cases, the territory of these municipalities is partly subject to the planning of the AdbPo and partly to that of the neighbouring Adb. In this sense we can speak of the administrative delimitation of the Po basin (without prejudice to what has been said about the non-national territory).
