Vector-type geo-referenced database containing information on the location and characteristics of places of particular geological and geomorphological interest, the value of which is mainly scientific, landscape and cultural. Together, these sites form a body that can be defined as Geositi from the Emilia-Romagna Region and represent the geological heritage of the area. The points identify or geosites of a limited territorial extent, so that they can be effectively located with a point, or are the central geosites with the most important area extent (cartograph at scale 1: 5000). these areas were identified with the preliminary analysis of the geological map, the study of the soil and the mapping of the geological object. The catalogue therefore collects data on outcrops, morphologies, caves and sources which, during the surveys carried out by the Geological Service, have returned data that are particularly important and scientifically significant. The geosites have been selected, in accordance with Article 3 of Regional Law No 09/2006, for which it is particularly important to define forms of exploitation and protection. the data collected and structured through the GIS provide information on geographical location, geological characteristics, existing protections for all the areas, points and paths of observation noted. The database also contains photographs, in-depth texts, possible use possibilities, bibliographical indications and is continuously updated in relation to the evolution of knowledge, environmental dynamics and changes brought about by human action. The Geositi database provides the basis for identifying places with rarity and uniqueness, where there are important evidence of the geological and geomorphological history of the region.
