Geological heritage database — punctual geosites

Vector data base, georeferenced, containing information on the location and characteristics of places of particular geological and geomorphological interest, whose value is mainly scientific and landscape. These places form a corpus that can be defined as Geosites of the Emilia-Romagna Region and represent a part of the geological heritage of local importance of the territory. They are represented through points, as their territorial scope is limited. The identification of geological assets took place with the preliminary analysis of the geological cartography, the study of soil and the filing of the geological object. The data collected and structured through the GIS shall provide information on the geographical location, geological characteristics, existing protections, covering all areas, points and observation routes surveyed. The database also contains photographs, in-depth texts, possible use possibilities, bibliographical indications and is continuously updated in relation to the evolution of knowledge, environmental dynamics and changes induced by human actions. The Geosites database is the basic tool for identifying places that have aspects of rarity and uniqueness, where there are important testimonies of the geological and geomorphological history of the regional territory. It is a catalogue that collects data relating to outcrops, morphologies, caves and sources that during the surveys carried out by the Geological Service have returned data that are particularly important and significant from the scientific point of view.
