Key Enabling Technologies

The dataset provides data relating to the experimental investigation initiated by ARTI at the end of 2013 on the 6 Key Enabling Technologies (KET) and which were used for the drafting of the Report “The Puglia of Key Enabling Technologies — First step”. These data are those provided by only participants who have given consent to the processing of data. In addition, only the data gathered in the above-mentioned report were made public, according to the logic specified below. — Scientific publications: listed are the scientific publications declared by the research structures, carried out in the period 2010-2013 and which constitute the “top 25 %” publications among those declared overall. In each KET there are articles of highly diversified scientific-disciplinary sectors, where internationally recognised bibliometric criteria, such as the Impact Factor, can be differentiated in their absolute numerical weight and, consequently, such as to make it difficult to compare them in absolute terms. Therefore, in a non-exhaustive attempt to account for this discrepancy, a normalisation exercise was carried out: for each KET, the publications attributed to it by the participating structures were ordered by increasing Impact Factor. Given this distribution, the quartiles were then calculated, i.e. those values that divide each ordered distribution into four parts of equal number. The calculated position indices allow you to calculate differentiated impact factor ranges for each KET. In particular, the lower end of the last interval (4th quartile), calculated for each KET, makes it possible to identify a threshold value above which to identify “top 25 %” publications among those declared. — Patents: only patents valid on 31/12/2013 are listed and can be linked to the Apulian territory, i.e. having at least one holder with registered office in Puglia or at least one inventor with residence in a municipality of the Apulian territory.
