List of weddings, separations, divorces and cancellations year 2015 on a monthly basis

The dataset contains the number of civil and religious marriages, as well as the number of separations, divorces and cancellations (Legislative Decree No 132/2014) in the municipality of Lecce in 2015 on a monthly basis. Decree-Law No 132/2014, which entered into force on 13 September 2015, introduced two new instruments which completely revolutionised the procedure, with the aim of simplifying and managing the process of ending marriage between two persons or modifying the conditions (separation and divorce) previously laid down by the court. The first instrument is provided by Article 6 of the Decree, which provides in paragraph 1 that spouses may apply to a lawyer in order to conclude a ‘assisted negotiation agreement’ in order to reach a consensual solution of legal separation, termination of the civil effects of marriage, dissolution of marriage (in the cases referred to in Article 3(1)(b) of Law No 898/1970). for those who wish to opt for a DIY procedure, Article 12 allows spouses to go directly to the civil status officer of the municipality of residence (both of them, one of them or the municipality with which the marriage is registered or transcribed), in order to say goodbye without the help of a lawyer, by concluding ‘a legal separation agreement, or, in the cases referred to in Article 3(1)(b) of Law No 898 of 10 December 1970, dissolution or termination of the civil effects of the marriage, and to amend the conditions for separation or divorce’. Again, the operation is very simple: the officer receives the declarations of each of the parties, in accordance with the conditions agreed between them, then the agreement is drawn up and signed immediately, which will have the same effect as the judicial measures.
