Sheet 5 includes the marine areas surrounding the islands of Ponza, Palmarola and Zannone, located along the margin of southern Lazio, at S of the 41st parallel.
The bottoms included in the Sheet include an extensive island platform, continental escarpment sectors, and limited portions of the basin areas of Ventotene and Palmarola. The island platform that surrounds the three islands, extends up to 115-160 m deep and is characterised by extensive outcrops of substrate (volcanic and non-volcanic), depressions related to the emission of fluids and forms of gravitative instability. The continental escarpment is divided into three sectors that connect the bottoms of the high bridge to the basins of Palmarola, Ventotene and Vavilov. The most interesting morphobatimetric elements have been identified along the escarpment sector that degrades towards the Vavilov plain, where the seabed is affected by almost pervasive gravitative instability. In this sector, the high slopes (locally even above 30°) have favored the formation of hundreds of simple and complex landslides, a dense network of channeled forms produced by retrogressive erosion-gravitative flows and extensive areas with widespread erosion. Other important morphobatimetric elements are the areas leaking fluids located in the areas of escarpment adjacent to the basins of Ventotene and Palmarola, the areas with conturitic deposits located in N di Ponza, local substratum outcrops of volcanic nature located at the top of the Botte, of the seamount a
S of the Botte and along the escarpment of Vavilov.
Eight critical points have been identified, including leakage of fluids, landslides and canyon warheads. Eight critical points were detected, linked to leakage of fluids, landslides and canyon warheads. CNR-IGAG
