Sheet 08 is located in the Central Tyrrhenian Sea and is located on the continental margin of the Campania Region, in the eastern part of the Gulf of Naples and the western part of the Gulf of Salerno; it therefore includes the offshore Vesuvian, the areas surrounding the island of Capri and all the offshore of Positano with the deep part of the Gulf of Salerno.
The Gulf of Naples has two distinct sectors as geological and sedimentary characteristics: the morphology of the northern sector is dominated by the presence of the various main eruptive centers of the province of Campania (Campi Flegrei, Vesuvius), their relative pyroclastic and lava deposits and the activity of tectonic volcano; that of the southern sector which is dominated by sedimentation.
The portion of the Gulf of Salerno represented in the cartography has a deep intra-scarped basin area (Valle di Salerno) bordered by two escarpments;
the northern one is characterised by an acclived morphology and dominated by an erosive system of calanchivo type, which contrasts the lower slope of the southern slope of the valley, characterised by widespread landslides.
There are 10 critical points that include five landslides or landslides, two collapses and/or retreats of cliffs, two wrecks and a mouth of uncertain origin.
The scientific body responsible for the sheet is the CNR-IAMC.
