The sheet is placed in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, covers a portion of the northern coast of Sicily (in the Capo d’Orlando basin) and includes an area ranging from Finale to Torre del Lauro.
The Sicilian continental escarpment is the most important morphological element of the sheet. It runs through the sheet from West to East, with a rather articulated trend, reaching even high slopes. The escarpment is affected by a complex system of canyons with strong retrogressive character. In the eastern area of the Foglio the canyons go deep into depositional systems of embankment-channel and lobes. In the western part of the sheet there are several landslides with significant dimensions, whose niches develop along the edge of the platform engraving it and giving rise to structures morphologically similar to canyons. In the North-Western part of the sheet there is a portion of the upper Finale, characterised by steps that correspond to faults with prevailing direction from Northwest to Northeast, and dive to the southeast. In general, therefore, the morphobatimetric elements of the sheet of Sant’Agata are made up of a complex of canal embankment subject to strong gravitative deformation in the eastern portion. In the western part, on the contrary, the destructive processes characterised by slides and slump prevail, which in some cases evolve towards canalised structures that reach to affect the edge of the platform.
