The sheet is located in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, along the central western coast of the northern continental margin of Sicily (Gulf of Castellammare). The sheet falls in the central-western portion of the northern-Sicilian continental margin and includes the continental shelf and the upper escarpment. Among the morphological structures indicating potential danger have been recognised in the sector of the Gulf of Palermo numerous underwater canyons that show a retrogressive evolution, linked to the action of underwater landslides. Canyon warheads in some cases affect the edge of the platform due to backward phenomena. Gravitative phenomena can also be triggered by the uplifts of fluids, highlighted by pockmarks and mud vulcanetti, which make both the edge of the platform and the continental escarpment even more unstable. In the Sheet a potential geological hazard can also be attributed to the activity of regional tectonic features with considerable discards. These faults are associated with both the widespread seismicity found in this sector (1998 and 2002) and the pockmarks aligned along the same directions. There are 12 critical points (complex landslide, canyon, tectonic line, fault). CoNISMa-UniPalermo
