The survey area lies in northwestern Sicily, extending from the peninsula of Capo San Vito to the east, passing through the Banco dei Pesci, a dry land located about five nautical miles northwest of the island of Levanzo. The extensive high morphology of Banco Scuso represents an isolated platform, which separates in the direction of N-S, the two trapped basins of Erice and Trapani. It is limited by rather acclictive and locally rectilinear escarpments, which indicate an important structural control according to NW-SE and NE-SW oriented directions. The limited historical seismicity of the area does not allow assumptions about the seismogenetic potential of recognised faults. The morphology of the physiographic unit is subsequently modified by the exogenous dynamics, responsible for the formation of channeled forms and gravitative transport structures.
