The area of Foglio 4 includes much of the continental margin of the Ligurian Apennines, understood in a geographical sense, from the Promontory of Portofino to the Promontory of Portovenere. From a physiographic point of view, Sheet 4 includes a relatively wide and level continental shelf, with no major indentations or protrusions. The escarpment is divided into various areas: in front of the Promontory of Portofino is characterised by the imposing gravitative processes of the Frana homonymous. In the area of Sestri Levante it extends from -140 to over -800 m and has regular morphology; in the median sector, outside the canyons, it does not present any particular morphological emergencies. Important peculiarities of the physiography of the Foglio are the Levante Canyon with its tributaries. The criticality found in the paper concerns mainly gravitative phenomena. There are 3 critical points related to canyon and landslide heads.
