The sheet is located in the Central-East Tyrrhenian Sea, along the southern margin of the Campania Region, including the stretch of the Cilento coast between Acciaroli and Pisciotta in the province of Salerno.
The sheet includes the offshore Cilento and includes a wide sector of continental shelf between Punta Licosa and Capo Palinuro, the upper continental escarpment and the inner offshoots of the escarped reliefs that constitute the northern edge of the Palinuro basin. The morphobatimetric elements that constitute level 3 on the platform, are related to the background forms, to the outcrops of substrate and to the creep phenomena related to the distal sedimentation of prodelta and to the erosive and/or depositional terraces. In the escarpment instead prevail the elements related to the erosive deviations with its eyelashes, faults, landslide niches and systems of channels and escarpments structurally controlled. The elements of potential hazard are mainly observed along the escarpments. The landslide niches are concentrated throughout the upper escarpment although at a relatively low slope and its heaps are often confined to a short distance from the respective crowns, due to the presence of intra-scarped reliefs. Landslide niches develop immediately beyond the outer terrace of the platform and are often associated with structural features.
There are 3 critical points that include two landslides and an area of the upper escarpment of the Cilento offshore affected by subcircular depressions related to sinkholes or giant pockmarks.
The scientific body responsible for the sheet is the CNG-IAMC.
