The sheet is located in the central part of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the central sector of the eastern margin of Sardinia and extends from Baunei to Abba Urci.
The sheet is located in the intrascarpate basin of the Ogliastra. It includes entirely the continental margin, from the platform to the bacinal plane of intrascapata at depths of more than 1 500 m. The continental shelf is narrow, normally less than 10 km. Fossil deltizi systems and paleo litoral cords are present in the platform. At the village of Arbatax the platform reaches in values of smaller extensions, being deeply engraved by the canyon of Arbatax, whose head reaches a distance of only 400 m from the port of Arbatax. The Arbatax canyon represents the largest underwater drainage system of the sheet, and consists of a sinuous canyon engraved into the platform and continental escarpment for over 700 m, which at the base of the continental escarpment develops a deep underwater conoid of about 10 km in diameter. Other main canyons are the canyon of Bari Sardo, and the canyon of Marina di Gairo. The main systems of continental escarpment canyons (Arbatax canyon, Bari Sardo canyon, Marina di Gairo canyon), landslide niche systems along the continental escarpment and the main elements of the bacinale plain (canal and deep cone of Arbatax, Marina di Gairo channel).
