The map covers 78 % of the Emilia-Romagna region and describes the soils and their geographical distribution in the plains, in 93 % of the lower Apennines (hill) and in 37 % of the average Apennines, at the scale of 1:50.000. Each single polygon (delineation) of the soil card is identified by a numerical code and is described for the soils that make up it. A total of 13,353 soil polygons are outlined, of which 2,230 in the plains, 5,188 in the lower Apennines or hill and 5,935 in medium Apennines The soil polygons have an average area of 467 ha in the plains, 71 ha in the lower Apennines and 31 ha in medium Apennines. Polygons with similar distribution of soils constitute a cartographic unit (there are 820). A total of 466 soil types are described (210 in the plains, 162 in the lower Apennines, 90 in medium Apennines and 4 in the Upper Apennines), classified according to the Soil Taxonomy (2010, 2014) and WRB (1998, 2007, 2014).
