In 1988, following the establishment of several regional parks, the vegetation mapping programme was launched. The vegetation map is a key tool both for the preparation of the Parks’ spatial plans and for their management. In order to compile the vegetation map, the plant sociological methodology, already adopted by the Regional Code, has been followed, which is widely tested and acquired in the field of vegetation mapping at European level. The method used included photointerpretation, cartographic return, campaign survey, data processing and final paper compilation; All operations carried out in accordance with the relevant regional legislation. All the cards were then acquired in digital format and are currently available both in E00 format for ARC INFO and as a shapefile. In addition, for each vegetation map the natural map derived from it is available.
