ARPAE, in agreement with the health service of the Emilia-Romagna Region, has carried out, since 2019, monitoring for the scientific analysis of the risks associated with the possible presence and flowering of cyanobacteria in the regional coastal waters suitable for bathing as a result of their increasing spread mainly due to eutrophication and climate change, and to collect information on the presence or absence of Ostreopsis ovata algae, potentially toxic, in the waters of the Emilian coast of Romagna. The monitoring network provides for the control of stretches of coast with certain geomorphological characteristics, such as the presence of brushes and artificial barriers, however with little water exchange, located in the provinces of Ferrara (Porto Garibaldi), Ravenna (Lido di Savio), Forlì-Cesena (Cesenatico), Rimini (Misano Brazil) see map.The calendar of sampling and analysis activities is the same as that of bathing water control, between May and September of each year.
