The National Accelerometer Network (RAN) of the Prime Minister’s Office — Civil Protection Department (DPC) monitors in Italy seismic resentment on the ground by 580 stations containing a triaxial accelerometer, a digitiser, a GPRS modem or router and a GPS receiver. Automatically the raw data flows to the server into the Roman headquarters of the DPC where they are stored. The descriptive parameters of shock and waveforms are shared via the web. The same descriptive parameters are sent by e-mail to a distribution list. The RAN is managed by specialised staff of the DPC, with the support of manufacturers of the equipment for remote control, restoration, repair and maintenance, with guaranteed efficiency of the network of 95 %. In addition to these stations, the Department also uses data from public accelerometer networks (51 stations to date). The data as a whole, make it possible to describe in detail seismic shaking in epicentral area, for civil protection, scientific purposes and for the design of reconstruction.
