The National Hydrographic Network is a vector cartography of Italian watercourses on a national scale of 1:250,000 accompanied by a database containing the hydrological attributes characteristic of each arc of the hydrographic grid. The reference system adopted is UTM WGS84. In order to enhance the linear database, a punctual information layer was generated with the nodes of the grid (source, mouth, confluence, etc.) and a graph oriented for each river basin was created that allows the analysis of linear data such as the determination of watercourses upstream and/or downstream of a point or the identification of paths. The hydrographic grid is then designed in such a way as to have the dynamic segmentation capabilities that allow to manage the single stream as a single linear element from the source to the mouth or confluence, and to identify sections or points of the rivers associating with this different information.
